After years of incubation my debut songwriter EP “The Hours” is finally here, out on all streaming platforms and Bandcamp.
Conceived in the Canadian Rockies in 2018 and recorded way back in 2019, this release is a document of the first time I allowed myself to unabashedly embrace some of my oldest and deepest influences in my writing. I strove to be vulnerable, challenged myself to write (and sing!) my own lyrics, and create something from the heart that didn’t hide behind virtuosity and complexity.
Crammed into this five track EP you will find anthemic indie rock hooks, vocals both intimate and powerful, odd meters that still groove, emo break up songs, lush horn and vocal chorales, grand and cathartic final choruses, freely improvised duos, mellotron synths, a completely unbelievable trumpet solo by @str8outdawumi… a bit of everything I love. I don’t know what to call this music, but it definitely feels like me. I’m so proud of this record and the friends who helped make it.
The process of putting this EP together from writing to recording to producing it was an invaluable learning experience. I think the end result is really beautiful and one that embodies what I care most about in music and art.
I hope you will stream it, give it a like, a share, or better yet buy it on Bandcamp, but most importantly I hope it inspires someone to make the art they’ve always wanted to make.
